ABOUT ME

Jaris Kapcevičius – micro-realism and Japanese tattoo artist from Kaunas, Lithuania

I have always known that art and creativity would be part of my life. I was the kid who filled the margins of every notebook and drew late into the night.

Tattooing let me push my limits, enjoy what I do and share art with people. My goal is to turn your idea into a tattoo that brings you nothing but good emotions.

How the Jaris Ink story began

Art has been with me since childhood: I started art school in second grade. It went well, so after secondary school I chose to study graphic design at the art academy in Kaunas.

The drawing that could not be erased

Twice a year the academy held reviews – exams. One task was to make five hyperrealistic drawings, as close to a photograph as possible. After the review, already at home, I was asked to come back to the academy. When I arrived, I saw that one of my drawings looked strange.

“Jaris, can you explain this?” the lecturer asked and started rubbing my drawing with an eraser. I was shocked. “Why doesn’t the graphite come off?” – “Because I used fixative,” I answered. I had sprayed it so the drawing would not smudge. “Can you prove it?”

For half an hour I explained and proved my process – luckily, I had photographed every stage. The lecturers thought it was a print I had only drawn over. At first I was angry, but in the end it became a great story and an even bigger compliment.

The road to becoming a tattoo artist

I first came across tattoos at fifteen. My best friend and I decided to tattoo ourselves using the stick-and-poke method. That lit a spark, and for the first time I thought I would like to become a tattoo artist. Since then, tattoos have been part of my life.

A tattoo artist’s work today

Today I travel the world, guest-spot in different tattoo studios, meet wonderful people and have the freedom to create. Still, my base is Kaunas – this is where the Jaris Ink studio was born.

Tattooing is a never-ending journey of learning. The styles closest to me are realism – especially micro-realism – and the Japanese style. When I see my clients smile and get messages about their tattoos, I feel I am living a full life.

EXPERIENCE AND RECOGNITION

Awards and judging

In 2022 I won first place at the Villain Arts tattoo convention in Denver, Colorado (USA). In April 2024 I spent a whole weekend as a judge at the Long Live Tattoo Festival in Black Hawk, Colorado (USA). I have also tattooed at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally (South Dakota, USA, 2023) – one of the largest motorcycle rallies in the world – and taken part in the Łódź Tattoo Konwent in Poland.

My work has been featured in Inked, Tattoo Life, Il Tatuaggio and inkppl magazines.

Between conventions I regularly guest-spot in studios across Europe and the USA, and bring that experience back to my studio in Kaunas.
